Yes, it took me a few years and steps to put Nothing Twice together. The fear of failing has been strong, but somehow the fear of failing to try has eventually been even stronger. So here I am trying to make my dream. Welcome to Nothing Twice! Hurray!

This is my first blog entry ever, a good time to start alongside the launch of my Nothing Twice website. I’m going to write here using this platform as a way of talking to you, explaining some of my stories, thoughts and processes. Nothing Twice has been born out of my passion to hand MAKE. I make silver jewellery out of ‘nothing’ (of course ‘nothing’ takes time and thinking and designing and making; and all the expenses involved in running a small business). Practicalities aside, I am proud as I make objects from thoughts, emotions and memories. I turn the invisible into the tangible and I do it with love, passion and care.

What’s in a Name?

There are at least 250 - 300 million companies in the world according to various online sources (and over 9 million bicycles in Beijing according to the estimates by Katie Melua ;), each one with a name. With so many it can be hard to find a unique, descriptive and suggestive name that represents the core idea.. very hard indeed.

Ha! I got very very lucky, I have had the name for years and years now. I’ve had it because I believe in it and I try to live by it. It is an idea and an emotion combined. It had its start for me in the poem by Wislawa Szymborska, a poem I read when I was a kid. Once I saw and digested the opening lines: ‘Nothing can ever happen twice’, nothing really ever happened twice for me. The name Nothing Twice represents a concept, an identity, a belief and a way in which I see and try to ‘silver - freeze’ emotions and moments. So here it is, as simple as that: ‘Nothing Twice’ means everything I hand make will never be made twice, it is special and made only for you, made now and never repeated. And the idea is to captivate the fleeting moment so that it can come back to you when you wear the silver pieces.
